About BTEC and Its Education
Curriculum in Bowen Theory:

The Bowen Theory Education Center is a nonprofit organization established in 2008. The Center's principle purpose is to provide an education and training center for teaching Bowen Theory of natural systems developed by Murray Bowen, M.D., and its application to the human condition. The Mission of the Bowen Theory Education Center is to provide knowledge of concepts, principles and the application of Bowen Theory through a supervised experiential learning process that includes practice and application of Bowen Theory. Bowen Theory is based on fifty years of scientific study by Dr. Murray Bowen who observed that human behavior is governed by the family relationships and the generational history of the family.
The symposium will launch an eight month training program in Bowen Theory. This postgraduate and professional training program will provide a basic introduction and training in Bowen Theory, the study of natural systems, and the family. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will provide continuing education credits for the conference and program.

Information on our Training Program is available at our website:
Families with Addiction:
A Family Systems Perspective

The family is an emotional unit in which each individual plays a part in the reciprocal interactions which are a part of family life.  This day will explore how a problem, such as addiction—to drugs, alcohol, food, or gambling—develops within the context of  the family’s emotional life without assigning blame to any one family member.  The day will include a description of addiction through the lens of family systems theory, two clinical video interviews, and a framework for thinking about how to address addiction from a family framework.
